LinkedIn Outreach Sequence
A multi-step LinkedIn outreach sequence for SDRs targeting cold prospects on the platform.
Sequence Overview
This 14-day sequence combines LinkedIn actions with supporting email touches. Each step builds on the previous one to create familiarity before the ask.
| Day | Action | Channel | Goal |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | View profile + engage with a post | Create visibility | |
| 2 | Send connection request (with note) | Get accepted | |
| 4 | Like or comment on their recent post | Build familiarity | |
| 5 | Send first message | LinkedIn DM | Start a conversation |
| 7 | Supporting email #1 | Provide value, reference LinkedIn | |
| 9 | Share relevant content via DM | LinkedIn DM | Deliver value |
| 11 | Supporting email #2 | Follow up with a different angle | |
| 14 | Final message with clear CTA | LinkedIn DM | Ask for the meeting |
Connection Request Template
Keep it under 300 characters. No pitch in the connection request.
“Hi [First Name], I’ve been following [Company]‘s work in [specific area]. I share a lot of content about [relevant topic] and thought it would be great to connect.”
Message Templates
Day 5, First Message:
“Thanks for connecting, [First Name]. I noticed [Company] is [specific observation, e.g., hiring for X roles, expanding into Y market]. We have been working with similar teams on [specific outcome]. Would a brief conversation make sense?”
Day 9, Value Share:
“[First Name], thought you might find this useful. [Link to a relevant article, case study, or data point]. We put this together based on what we are seeing across [industry/segment]. Happy to share more if it is relevant to what you are working on.”
Day 14, Final Message:
“[First Name], I do not want to be the person who keeps following up without adding value. If [pain point or goal] is a priority for your team this quarter, I would love 15 minutes to share how [Customer Name] solved a similar challenge. If the timing is not right, no worries at all.”
Best Practices
- Personalize every message. Reference something specific from their profile, posts, or company news.
- Never pitch in the connection request. It kills acceptance rates.
- Space your LinkedIn activity throughout the day. Do not send 50 connection requests in one batch.
- Track response rates by message step to identify where prospects drop off.
- A/B test your first message every 2 weeks with a sample of 30+ prospects.
Exit Criteria
Remove a prospect from this sequence if:
- They accept a meeting (move to meeting prep flow)
- They respond with a clear “not interested” (mark as closed-lost, revisit in 6 months)
- They do not accept the connection request within 7 days (move to email-only sequence)
- They have not responded to any of the 3 DMs (move to a nurture list)
